Saint Petersburg and Tallin

Have had a fantastic few days in Talln and Saint Petersburg!

Tallin is a medieval old town, that appears to be mostly occupied by elderly cruise ship goers, and young, drunk Estonians/Finns etc. - lol

It was actually a great day - old medieval buildings, more cobblestone streets, good Russian food, and drinks in the town square...lots of woolen goods for sale in the market, and antique shops filled with old samovars (Russian tea pots), swords and WWII memorabilia. The Russian influence was interesting (Estonia got its freedom from Russia in early 1990's I believe...)

Saint Petersburg - fabulous - its made my trip so far! We toured the Hermitage, and Catherine' palace on the first day, and then wandered around on our own down Nevsky prospect on the second day - there is so much to see and do, and so many beautiful buildings - and many more that they are continuing to work on restoring....We managed to do OK on our own....only 6 people on the entire cruise had gotten their own visas so they go go out on the town independently (without being on a cruise tour) - so we felt very adventurous - and we could have gotten into trouble if we did not have a map with us to show the taxi driver how to get back to the cruise ship, which was docked out in a very unattractive area far from town.....the language barrier was quite hi in town!

Pictures later......

Now for Helsinki - its looks grim and rainy out there......maybe we will huddle up in a coffee shop somewhere....
